Rimmel Lasting Colour Rush Balm

Does anyone else pop into Boots and before you know it you’ve spent £30 on things you definitely don’t need but my goodness there’s absolutely no chance you’re not going to buy them?

It happens ALL the time for me, which isn’t great on the bank balance, but excellent for my make up bag!

I popped in a couple of weeks ago to buy face wipes and ended up picking up a Rimmel Lasting Colour Rush Balm in the colour Viva Violet.

It wasn’t the first time I’ve tried these out, I already have it in The Redder The Better, but I wanted a deep pinky purple to go with an outfit I was planning to wear that night.

It wasn’t a necessity but I just couldn’t resist!

It’s a really lovely deep pink, which isn’t as dark as some of the others that are quite fashionable at the minute. I was slightly apprehensive to try out this colour as it’s quite a statement but this one is really nice as a first step into really dark lip colours!

I love the fact it has a pointed nib end as it’s so easy to use. I use the tip as a sort of lip liner that helps to keep it all in place, then the side of the point to fill in my lips.

The balmy consistency is so moisturising and it doesn’t feel like you’re wearing lipstick, yet has the colour intensity of one.

The smell is so lovely too! It’s quite a chocolatey sent which makes you want to lick your lips! I hate when lipsticks smell chemically.

The colour lasts such a long time too, which is brilliant. I obviously applied it a couple of times throughout the evening, but woke up with still a bit of colour on my lips!

The Lasting Colour Rush Balm is only £5.99, and everyone needs to try it out! I love them!

Hope you’re all having a lovely weekend!

MeMeBox ColorBox #1 Red

This monthly box is a newbie to me, although I have seen it on quite a few different beauty blogs recently. My love for subscription boxes forced me to try out this international beauty box. There are an absolute tonne of different themed boxes, and I received the ColorBox #1 Red. Now I am a Red in the fact that I support Manchester United, but I don’t tend to own a lot of red make-up and so this was a mini adventure for me. Let’s see what’s inside…

 open box

Dearberry Flirt Lipstick 08 Red Parade ($12)

This is a full sized product and is a bright red lipstick which is made from naturally derived ingredients, including olive oil, cocoa butter and cupuacu seed butter. This buttery smooth lipstick slides onto the lips perfectly and lasted me a good few hours.

Dearberry Today Nail Lacquer #21 Pink Sprinkling ($3)

Another full sized product, although I am unsure why it is called Pink Sprinkling as it is most definitely pillar-box red. A handy-sized classic red nail polish that needs just one coat to produce super red vividness.

L’OCEAN Eye Shadow L-35 Red ($10)

This eyeshadow compact is velvety smooth, long-lasting and extremely vivid in colour. A little too vivid for me, but I think this shade would look beautiful on darker skin. The quality of the product is fab though and I would definitely be happy getting it in another shade in a future box.

Tosowoong Gel Pencil Liner 04 Burgundy ($10)

This is a beautiful dark burgundy gel eyeliner pencil, will glides on super smooth and easily. I tried this on my hand, in a love heart shape to show you the colour, and I tried rubbing it off afterwards but couldn’t. Therefore I am stuck with a loveheart on my hand all day, but at least it shows just how good the staying-power of the product is.

Cheek Room Two Color Lip Gloss #6 Red ($12)

The fifth and final full-sized product from my ColorBox is this amazing lipgloss. It is highly enriched with grape seed oil to moisturise chapped lips as well as giving a glossy sheen to your lips. This special lipgloss actually consists of two different colour glosses – a red and a coral, and so each application can alter slightly, which I find a really fun idea.

The MeMeBox costs just $15 plus shipping at www.memebox.com but be quick cos they sell out super fast! I cannot wait to try some of the other themed boxes, I have my eye on quite a few.

Nail clippers are a hot commodity in my house – they are both frequently needed and frequently lost. I normally purchase the cheapest ones I can find, but these often don’t do the job on toenails and end up shattering the nail.

I introduce to you, the CLYPPI Stainless Steel Toenail Clipper. Yes, I know, most people hate feet, looking at feet, talking about feet, but don’t worry there are definitely NO foot pictures in this blog post. I promise. The CLYPPI is really easy to hold on to, it is made of stainless steel with a brushed steel finish and so it is not slippery like a lot of the cheaper nail clippers can be. It also has a flared end on the lever that provides a better grip and so is perfect for people with arthritis or joint pain who need a little more support.

There is also a nail file built into the lever that has a much finer grain than that of other nail files you find on clippers. When using the clippers, it leaves the nail edge really clean and doesn’t leave chips or jagged edges, which is something I have been suffering from for a while now with my cheaper nail clippers.

Now here is the best thing about buying a CLYPPI – it has a LIFETIME GUARANTEE! No questions asked – now you can’t say fairer than that! You can order your very own CLYPPI from www.amazon.co.uk where they cost £12.47 and come with free delivery. Yes, that is quite a lot of money for a pair of nail clippers, but these beauties will last you forever, and if they don’t then you can simply get your money back!

Those of you that are regular Kats Paws readers will have read all about my lip balm collection. I buy lip balms all the time, as I am always losing them but its something I cannot be without. Here are a couple of my favourite Blistex ones.

Blistex Daily Lip Conditioner (£2.59)

This arrives in a cute little pot and the lid just screws off easily. The formula inside looks quite waxy, and is quite transparent in colour. You simply pop your finger in, give it a little swipe (you do not need much of this product as it is quite thick in texture and so spreads on the lips really well) and then smooth it across your lips. The Daily Lip Conditioner has Olive and Grape Seed Oils as part of the ingredients and so helps to keep your lips in fabulous condition. It also contains Aloe Vera which is really cooling, especially after being out in the sunshine all day, which reminds me that this product also has an SPF of 15, which means you can keep those luscious lips protected when out and about.

Blistex Lip Brilliance (£2.61)

In a twist up tube, this lip balm product adds a really pretty shimmer and tint of rosy pink to the lips. It contains nourishing ingredients such as Vitamin E to naturally replenish, Silk Extracts for super-softness, and Grape Seed Oil to condition your lips. Because of the shimmer in the formula, it makes your lips look fuller, without giving you that trout pout look. I really liked this product as it gave me colour as well as conditioning and protecting my lips. I have quite thin lips and so this gave them a fabulous boost without drying my lips out like some lipstick products can. As with the Daily Lip Conditioner, the Lip Brilliance also has an SPF of 15 and so is great for this time of year.

Take a look at www.blistex.co.uk to find out more and visit Asda, Boots, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s, Superdrug, Tesco and all leading retailers and pharmacies to purchase.

Bracketed prices are based on www.boots.com current prices.

Cocoa Brown Self-Tanning Range

I think Emily has briefly mentioned Cocoa Tan on here before but this was the first time I have tried it and so wanted to share my experience with you all. I want to introduce you to the Cocoa Brown Ultimate Travel Set.

When I hear the words travel set, I often think of miniature lotions and potions, but each product within this pack is a generous size at 75-100ml. All three products come in a super handy waterproof zippable bag, which even features a little hook for you to hang in your bathroom.

 tough stuff

First up is Tough Stuff, this is a no-nonsense body scrub that helps your skin prepare for the application of the self-tan. The formula is a great pinky purple colour and has intense granules in to really buff and polish the skin. It smelt lovely and was really quick and easy to use although I wouldn’t recommend using it in the bath, I would use it in the shower, as I did the aforementioned and felt like I was sat in a sand pit!

Next up is the 1 Hour Tan. This is a mousse formula and so is mega easy to apply. I used the Cocoa Brown Tan Applicator Mitt as this ensures I don’t end up with orange palms. You simply pop on the mitt and spray out some of the tan into your mitted hand, and then simply smooth all over your body. It only took me no longer than ten minutes for a full body application and I even used it on my face.

It was quite hot last night and so I don’t know whether it was the heat or the formula but I needed to wait around 10-15 minutes before dressing. In the morning I was really impressed with the colour of the tan, and I had no streaks anywhere. The colour I was left with after showering was a lovely natural bronze rather than resembling an Oompa Loompa.

Now it is very important to moisturise whilst wearing self-tan as some formulas can really dry out the skin. Cocoa Brown’s Chocolate Whip Oil-Free Moisturiser is perfect for keeping the skin hydrated and soft. It looks and smells like chocolate dessert and helps to prolong the tan rather than just keeping your skin moisturised. With all three stages of self-tanning taken care of, this travel set really is the ultimate.

Kevin.Murphy Haircare

The Kevin.Murphy line of haircare first caught my eye because of their unusual bottle design. Each bottle is a neat rectangle with the lid on the bottom left side, not your average bottle of shampoo. I love trying higher-end haircare products and so I chose the range for fine coloured hair like mine. The range for this kind of hair is the Angel range – pretty name, pretty bottle, pretty coloured bottles.

Angel Wash (shampoo) and Angel Rinse (conditioner) are as mentioned, specifically for the fine-haired, whether you colour it or keep it natural. This range is also good for people with fragile or damaged hair due to chemical processes, e.g. you blondes out there.

The Angel Wash is a gentle volumising cleanser and helps with colour retention. Milk proteins in the formula helps calm frizzy hair that has suffered from long-term exposure to chemical processes. The colour of the Wash actually matches the bottle too, it is a pretty mauve pink.

The Angel Rinse is a light-weight, volumising conditioner which adds moisture to dry, tired ends, as well as helping to repair fragile hair. It feels really smooth when you apply it and I recommend massaging the product well.

Not part of the Angel range, but never-the-less no less hair-repairing is the Born Again Essential Treatment. Now this is such a unique product that contains ingredients which are so small in their molecular size and weight, they can pass into the cortex of the hair instantly. Now this product is strictly for hair that is extremely damaged or dehydrated to really give it that mega boost and treatment. You can use this product in the shower if you are in a rush or enjoy it in a relaxed bath whilst you are having a bit of a pamper session as you can leave it on for 2 to 20 minutes.

My hair tends to tangle a lot after washing but I noticed after using the Angel range, my hair didn’t have one single knot in it, so brushing was much more pleasant! I have used so many volumising haircare products, but this range added volume to my hair without making it feel heavy with product. I have also noticed that my ends are much softer and not as dry. I genuinely did feel a difference with this haircare range and my hair feels a lot less limp and miserable. Making me a happy girly.

You can purchase all of the Kevin.Murphy range at www.kevinmurphystore.com where the Angel Wash costs £16.95, the Angel Rinse costs £18 and the Born Again treatment costs £27. These products may be a little higher in cost than a lot of the high street branded haircare, but that’s because they have ingredients in them that genuinely work.

Vera Wang Lovestruck Floral Rush Perfume

I have wanted a Vera Wang perfume for ages, the bottles are absolutely gorgeous and I haven’t ever even sniffed any of the fragrances but I knew that I wanted one. When browsing Boots.com it came up with the Lovestruck Floral Rush Eau De Parfum 30ml on offer. The original price was £35 and it was down to just £19.95 – I definitely couldn’t not add it to my online basket!

So as I just divulged, I hadn’t even smelt this perfume before purchasing it – yes a silly thing to do, but I had heard so many good reviews I had confidence in Ms Wang. After admiring the beautiful purple bouquet and floral bow packaging, I removed the lid and had a spritz. HELLOOOOOO Vera Wang Lovestruck!

I thought it would be quite a light floral fragrance, but it is muskier than I thought which is perfect for me. It is a composition of champagne, pink pepper and apricot blossom as the top notes, pink passion flower, marigold and white freesia within the heart of the fragrance, whilst the base notes include hints of ambergris, musk and cashmere wood.

 bottle closeup

I really like this perfume, and I now definitely want to start a Vera Wang collection, especially the glittery heart Princess bottles. Summed up, this is a stunning floral fragrance that is delicate and feminine, and works well for both day and night, as well of course as looking the absolute Kats Paws on your dressing table!

The offer at www.boots.com is still on so quick, quick, get yourself a bottle!!!

Birchbox July 2014

I must admit, as much as I have received lovely items in this month’s Birchbox, I am also slightly disappointed. Firstly I didn’t receive two of the items that were supposed to be in the box, but props to Birchbox as they sorted this out pretty quickly, and then secondly I noticed that some customers got a full size fabulous Nails Inc polish in their boxes but I didn’t. I know boxes vary, but I would definitely have loved to have gotten that polish. Anyway onwards and upwards, I shall tell you the cute things that I did get…none of the items are full size and so I won’t be adding the prices as they have only provided the prices for full size items.

Whish Three Whishes Lavender Body Butter

I do love lavender products, but to me this was a lot sweeter smelling than more traditional lavender products which I was a bit disappointed about. But I did love the art-deco style packaging, and the formula of the body butter is quite creamy and soaks in well.

Balance Me Wonder Eye Cream

I have tried a couple of Balance Me products before and have really liked them. This eye cream is handy for travelling and you only need a tiny amount and so even though it is a sample size it will last for quite some time.

 balance me

Laqa&Co Sheer Lip Lube Pencil in Bees Knees

This is a new brand to me, I haven’t really heard of it before and so I was excited to try something new. The colour of the pencil went on so easily and is a really pretty coral colour. I would definitely be interested in trying further Laqa&Co products as I was really impressed with this lip pencil.

Benefit The Porefessional

I use this product on a daily basis, and it is my all-time favourite primer. It makes your skin feel really soft and smooth, and the formula goes on effortlessly and really does reduce my pores. Again, even though this was a sample size I am still happy to get it as it will be great for when I run out of my regular tube and don’t have time to nip to the shops.

Gilchrist & Soames English Spa Sea Kelp Extract Mineral Bath

Another brand I have not before come across, and I do love a bath so I used this pretty much straight away. The scent of the mineral bath is lovely and fresh and really helped to relax me as well as softening my skin instead of drying it out like some bath products do.

Lifestyle Extra – The Chia Co Shots

Sorry to be Miss Negative today but I was pretty disappointed in this lifestyle extra, as the boxes which had the Nails Inc polish in, their lifestyle extra was a travel sized mouth spray. I suppose if I hadn’t have seen the other boxes I wouldn’t have thought twice. You are supposed to sprinkle these on your lunch for a healthy kick, but apparently they don’t have any taste to them.

Now don’t get me wrong I did enjoy the majority of my box, and if I hadn’t seen other people’s boxes then I wouldn’t have been so disappointed I think. But on a more positive note it was great to try out a couple of new brands and also have a little piece of Benefit.

FRONTLINE Guide To Pet Ownership & Competition

Launching the Love Your Pet campaign, FRONTLINE® Spot On, the leading tick and flea preventative, wants to reward animal lovers who don’t just love their pet, but go out of their way to give them the best care possible.

Celebrity Vet Joe Inglis and a panel of vet experts will be judging a competition to find the UK’s Most Dedicated Pet Owner. Joe gave us his fundamental tips to pet ownership…

1. Plenty of exercise

Taking your dog for a walk, or playing with the cat is not only great fun, it’s also a vital part of looking after them properly. Dogs usually benefit from at least two walks a day – more if you have the energy – and take as much time as you can to play with the cat!

2. Fresh Water

All pets need plenty of fresh water, particularly if they are on a dry diet, so make sure you give them a new bowl full every day and top it up if it gets low. Some cats don’t like a tap water because of the taste of chlorine so if your cat doesn’t seem to be drinking from their bowl, try collecting rainwater for them to drink, or give them bottled water.

Eating well is just as important for pets as it is for people, so make sure you feed your animals a healthy and appropriate diet. There are many different ways types of feed, from complete dry foods to raw meat, but whichever you choose, make sure you do your research and feed them the best quality your budget can accommodate.

And don’t forget that cats are obligate carnivores which means they have to eat meat and can’t survive on a vegetarian diet!

3. Grooming

Grooming is not only important for keeping your pet’s coat in tip-top condition, it is also an excellent way of checking your pet over from nose to tail on a regular basis. Anything unusual, such as a lump, swelling or patch of sore skin will be easily spotted and enable you to get some veterinary advice as soon as possible.

4. Flea Control

Fleas may be small but they can certainly cause big problems, with flea allergy dermatitis being one of the most common causes of skin disease in our pets. Common symptoms of flea infestations include itching and scratching, obvious sore patches on the skin, fur loss and saliva staining, especially around the tail base.

To check if your pet has fleas, take a sheet of white paper, and use a fine comb to go through your pet’s fur, especially along their back. Comb onto the piece of paper, and collect whatever comes out of the coat. If you find lots of tiny black specs, this could be flea dirt. To check, dab the specs with a piece of wet cotton wool. If it is flea dirt, the cotton wool will get stained red thanks to the blood in the dirt.

To keep your pet protected from fleas use regular spot-on treatments such as FRONTLINE Spot On and make sure you treat all the pets in the house. Make sure you keep up flea control throughout the year as fleas can breed all year round in centrally heated houses.

5. Keep your pet safe

Thousands of pets are lost and stolen every year, many never returning to their homes. To help reduce the risks of your pet going missing and not returning, make sure they are micro-chipped to permanently identify them. These tiny chips, which are around the size of a grain of rice, are implanted using a needle by your vet. Every chip contains a unique number, which identifies your pet when read using a scanner – so if they are ever lost and taken to a vet or rescue centre, they can be easily reunited with you!

To be crowned the UK’s Most Dedicated Pet Owner, simply follow these steps:

  1. Like FRONTLINE’s new facebook page: www.facebook.com/FrontlineSpotOn
  2. Upload a special photo of you and your pet that shows just how much you love your furry friend, along with a short description on why you deserve to win this coveted title

Glossybox July 2014

This might just be my favourite Glossybox EVER. I love all things American and the July Glossybox has a fabulous American Stars and Stripes theme. The box is a fabulous version of the stars and stripes from the American flag, and even the ribbon inside is red – which I shall definitely be saving as a hair ribbon, which I do with all my Glossybox ribbons.

Apart from the utterly fabulous box, I actually love every single product in it, which is definitely rare for me, and the value of the box is excellent too. I shall stop gabbing now and fill you in on what is inside.

Bellapiere Cosmetics Ltd Mineral Lipstick RRP £20

This cult American favourite is formulated with natural waxes, mineral pigments and antioxidants including Vitamin C and Vitamin E, providing long lasting colour and protection against the sun. I received the shade Ruby which is a stunning bright red and will look perfect with my reed Glossybox ribbon! The texture of the lipstick is really smooth, and I am not sure whether it is because it is red but it lasted hours on my lips.

ABSOLUTE New York Perfecting Eyeshadow Primer RRP $4.99

This is a brand I haven’t heard of before and so it was great to try something new. This oil-free ultra-creamy formula evens out skin tone around the eye area and keeps your eyeshadow crease-free and in place for a lasting effect. The sponge applicator makes it really easy to apply and the formula feels really light on the skin, as well as blending really well. I would definitely be interested in trying other products from the ABSOLUTE range and at under $5 the prices seem really reasonable.

Carmex Lip Balm RRP £2.69

I remember the first time I went to Florida in 1999 with my parents and my Mum was on the look out for this lip balm for her and her work colleagues. I had never heard of it at the time but apparently it was a wonder product. Ever since then I have been in love with Carmex, the formula is so simple but works so well for dry, chapped lips. Now of course you can purchase Carmex in most UK shops such as Superdrug, Tesco, Boots etc and it is definitely a staple product every girl should own.

Mary Kay Cosmetics Lash Love Mascara RRP £16

Mary Kay is a brand I have heard of but not had the chance to try before. The brand is huge in the States and I can understand why after trying this mascara. It adds up to four times more volume to lashes and they appear fuller, lifted and multiplied, without having that clumpy-spidery look. This would definitely be another brand I would be interested in trying more products from.

Broadway Nails imPRESS Press On Manicure RRP £7.99

I have seen imPRESS over in this country, but when I have purchased them in America, they always seem to have better colours and designs in the range. I received So, So Stellar which is an iridescent green/grey/pink/purple (?!?) colour and so pretty. They came in the Short Length which is perfect for me as I love the look of long nails, but I just can’t get on with them on a day-to-day basis. Application is really easy and they have lasted me around 5-6 days before.

So yes, as you may tell I loved this Glossybox and would definitely be interested in seeing other country-themed Glossyboxes in future!

Glossybox costs £10 per month plus postage and packing and you can sign up at www.glossybox.co.uk

Which countries would you like to see a themed beauty box based on?
